Keep River Plains Road Upgrade
Updated: Feb 7
Through a contract with the Department of Infrastructure and head contractor, Exact Contracting, ie.project (NT) are managing the provision of Indigenous employment services to the: Keep River Plains Road Upgrade.
The scope of works involves construction of a new 26km roadway, including two new bridges, to be delivered in two separate stages over the coming months.
Stage 1 works are well underway, and we currently have a team of 18 Indigenous civil workers and operators on site. They are working on the first 13km of the road upgrade, which includes a 210m bridge.
Stage 2 will see the remaining 13km completed, including another 69m bridge.
Government funding and a strong focus on Indigenous employment and skill development has provided great opportunity to local people. It has enabled them to be a part of this exciting project on the outskirts of Kununurra, that will see major improvements to accessibility, freight capacity and flood immunity, along with increased regional productivity and economic development, due to improved year-round road access of the area.
The project started in August 2019 and is expected to be completed in late 2020 (weather permitting). We look forward to supporting our team of Indigenous employees during this long term project.
